They usually arrive within minutes, so the default 3 hours leaves plenty of room for retries. Once received, you do not need to extend the address.
Inbox Lifespan Planner
OrbForward disposable addresses last 3 hours by default. You can extend one by 3 hours at a time, up to 24 hours from creation. For anything beyond a day, use a forwarding alias.
Choose a time range and the planner will recommend an address strategy. Your current mailbox will not be changed.
Your address should cover sending, queueing, retries, and the time until you return to check your inbox. Here is how to plan for common tasks.
They usually arrive within minutes, so the default 3 hours leaves plenty of room for retries. Once received, you do not need to extend the address.
Most are sent immediately, but greylisting can cause delays. Refresh the inbox first; do not replace an address you have already submitted.
They may arrive several hours later. Estimate when the queue will finish and extend the address in 3-hour increments before it expires.
Extend the address if same-day manual confirmation is expected. If confirmation or rescheduling may take more than a day, use a forwarding alias.
Refunds often take 3–5 business days, well beyond the disposable address limit. Use an alias when placing the order.
Recovery emails may be triggered at any time in the future, so do not use a disposable email. Use a stable, long-term address for important accounts.
Extending, refreshing, and replacing an address are different actions. The wrong one may invalidate an address you already gave to a website.
| Action | What happens | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Refresh inbox | Checks for new email without changing the address or expiry time | Waiting for an email that has already been sent |
| Extend by 3 hours | Keeps the current address, up to 24 hours from creation | A reasonable delay for the same task |
| Replace address | Creates a new 3-hour mailbox; the old address is no longer your current inbox | Starting a completely new, unrelated task |
| Use a forwarding alias | Delivers mail to a long-term destination; the alias can be paused or deleted | Contact expected to continue beyond one day |
A disposable email is valuable because it has a short lifespan: an address shared with an unfamiliar website does not stay linked to you forever. Unlimited extensions would turn it into a long-term mailbox without the recovery and security features you need, increasing the risk of missed mail.
Twenty-four hours covers most verification codes, downloads, and same-day confirmations, while encouraging long-term relationships to move to a manageable alias. The limit is measured from creation, not restarted after each extension.
A normal refresh does not replace your address. As long as the mailbox is still active and your browser still has its access credential, the page will try to restore the same address and remaining time.
Clearing browser data, ending a private-browsing session, or changing devices may remove your access credential. Disposable email is not designed for cross-device recovery, so choose a long-term channel for important messages.
First, confirm that the submitted address is correct. Then refresh the inbox and use the sender's resend option. Do not replace the address immediately—the sender will still deliver the retry to the original address.
If the expected wait exceeds the remaining time, extend the address before it expires. For anything definitely lasting more than 24 hours, do not rely on repeated refreshes; use a forwarding alias from the start.
Use a disposable mailbox for instant messages; create a forwarding alias for relationships lasting beyond a day.
